So we do writing exercises to increase creativity. This is what happens.

We pulled exercises from Bonnie Neubauer’s book Write Brain. I highly recommend it. Some are really odd, some you’ll need to dedicate some time to, but others are perfect for quick prompts, strange thoughts and good laughs.

One of today’s: “Don’t Sweat It”. We allotted two minutes to spew out whatever stream of consciousness we had and put it on paper. The directions were to begin with “If I weren’t allergic to sweating I’d…”

And here was mine.

If I weren’t allergic to sweating, I’d dive into the lake. I mean, I’m not allergic to my own sweat, but come on. Fish must sweat. Even worse than being allergic to sweat is fish sweat. That’s just gross. In retrospect, I’m pretty glad I’m allergic to fish sweat. I’ll sit on the dock and think to myself “Man, look at those fools, tubing around in fish perspiration. Nasty.”

Thank you, brain. I appreciate you.

Just finished Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely. I had the honor to see him speak this past spring at the Click 2011 Summit in Charlotte, NC. He’s a spectacular speaker and captivating speaker.
It examines the way in which we make seemingly random and unexplainable choices for how we behave and the decisions we make. And how they’re actually perfectly predictable. Genius.
Highly recommended. And now I’m on to the next…
